A fun, crazy and ludicrous action flick starring Kate Beckinsale that could easily act as a sister to Crank

I must admit, I’ve not seen too many Amazon Prime original movies in my time, normally I stick to Netflix, but there was something about the plot of this movie that drew me in, or maybe it was just the cool poster I saw.

Kate Beckinsale stars as Lindy, a British ex bouncer with, to put it lightly, an anger management problem, out for revenge after her recent hook up is murdered. However, Lindy’s outbursts of rage are so violent and easily triggered that she must wear a vest which electrocutes her whenever she presses a button, to stop her from attacking people.

Straight out of the gate it’s hard not to compare this film to Crank: High Voltage (2009 sequel to, you guessed it, Crank, starring Jason Statham), except instead of the protagonist electrocuting themselves to stay alive, they’re doing it to stop themselves beating the crap out of anyone who even slightly vexes them. Does this make Lindy the most relatable character of the year? I think it might.

But with that comparison in mind, if you go into this film expecting an artsy, Oscar bait hour and a half, then you’ve got the wrong mindset. This film is filled with moments you never knew you needed to see (Kate Beckinsale throwing babies at Laverne Cox in an attempt to flee a hospital stands out as one) and perhaps could have benefitted from a better script in parts. However any criticism you may have of the film flies out of the window when you hear the line ‘are you still on the phone to that cunticicle?’ Because what film uses the word ‘cunticicle’ and takes itself seriously at the same time?

The films weakest moment is it’s opening sequence, where a voiceover talks over footage of Lindy growing up and how her anger issues have affected her life, but hey, we need to learn about her past somehow. May as well get it over and done with in the first few minutes. I must also add that the plot twist is very predictable, but for some reason it didn’t annoy me, possibly due to the tremendous acting in the scene.

Kate Beckinsale, Stanley Tucci and Jai Courtney all give great performances in their respective roles, but the one thing I wasn’t expecting to want when I finished the movie was a buddy-cop spin off starring Bobby Cannavale and Laverne Cox, oh and also a sequel.
