Deadpool and Wolverine (2024) By Emily Hubbard 4/5 Cameras πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯ Starring: Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman Directed by: Shawn Levy  The merc with a mouth finally makes his MCU debut, and brings a familiar face along for the ride  No Copyright Infringement Intended  2024’s summer blockbuster is finally here, taking place 6 years after Deadpool 2, it has got comic book fans across the globe flocking to the cinema in droves, but is it worth the wait? We start Deadpool and Wolverine by finding Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) has given up his iconic red costume and chosen to live a more ‘ordinary’ life. Unsurprisingly, this changes when his home world is threatened, leading everyone’s favourite anti-hero to suit up once again, but this time bringing a once-thought-lost beloved character along for the ride. This aforementioned character is, of course, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, who we last saw meeting a grisly end in 2017’s Logan. For fans of comic books, this team-up will come as...

The Flash (2023)

Image
The Flash By Emily Hubbard and Calum Whitfield  The Flash finally gets his day on the big screen, in an entertaining, if a little uninspired, solo adventure Directed by: Andy Muschietti Starring: Ezra Miller, Sasha Calle, and Michael Keaton  3.5/5 Cameras πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯.5 No Copyright Infringement Intended  The DCEU is awaiting a reset, but in the meantime, the last few stragglers from the old canon are still being released. Amongst these is The Flash, starring serial troublemaker Ezra Miller as the titular character (The Flash aka Barry Allen), reprising their role from previous films. The film takes another stab at the increasingly common multiverse trend that has been appearing in superhero titles as of late, but does it reach the heights of movies such as the recent Spider-Verse movies, or are we left with yet another messy, bloated flop?   The film takes inspiration from the classic DC comic storyline, Flashpoint. We find Barry struggling to balance his life as a s...

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022)

Image
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent By Mary Cooke Starring: Nicolas Cage, Pedro Pascal, and Sharon Horgan  Directed by: Tom Gormican Production Rating: 7/10 Narrative Rating: 6/10 πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯ .5 Cameras  No Copyright Infringement Intended  Meme’d and delicious, Nic Cage’s satirical meta-comedic-bond-movie-turned-bromance blockbuster takes you through a loosely tied-together piece of plot, with the characters leading the way through, but hey, it’s a fun adventure anyway. TikTok made that one scene famous (if you know, you know), which I actually saw before the movie came out, so I had to go watch the whole thing, and Nicolas Cage seems to happily lean into, or perhaps just gave up trying to fight, the internet’s obsession with making memes out of everything he does. At heart, though, it’s really an ode to Nic Cage’s career of playing Nic Cage whilst playing Nick Cage. This tongue-in-cheek walkthrough of some of Nic Cage’s most iconic, well-loved roles felt at times ...

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 (2023)

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 By Emily Hubbard  James Gunn’s beloved superhero trilogy draws to a satisfying close that still manages to stand out from other superhero films. 4/5 Cameras πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯   Directed by: James Gunn Starring: Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Chukwudi Iwiju, et al  No Copyright Infringement Intended  The MCU is now well into its teenage years, at 15 years old (with 32 movies), the franchise has transformed into a behemoth of entangled plotlines spanning an entire galaxy. At one edge we have The Guardians of the Galaxy, back again for their third solo adventure, but will this entry give the audience the closure they were hoping for? We re-join the Guardians where we last saw them in their 2022 Disney + Holiday Special, at their new headquarters on Knowhere, trying to live a peaceful life whilst dealing with the aftermath of previous events. This peace is shattered by an attack from the previously teased Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), wh...

Evil Dead Rise (2023)

Image
Evil Dead Rise By Calum Whitfield  A violent treat unlikely to win over those who fail to see the appeal of previous entries but guaranteed to satisfy fans. 4/5 Cameras πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯ Directed by: Lee Cronin Starring:    Lily Sullivan, Alyssa Sutherland, Morgan Davies, Gabrielle Echols, and Nell Fisher   No Copyright Infringement Intended To be clear right from the start, I love the Evil Dead. It’s easily my favourite horror franchise and quite possibly my favourite film franchise overall. Needless to say, this meant I was very excited going into Evil Dead Rise, and why wouldn’t I be? This is the one longstanding horror franchise with no bad entries, and the trailer and pre-release reports promised all the thrills and spills one could want from an Evil Dead film. Did it deliver? Without any doubt. The film dives straight in with a pre-title sequence that tells its audience exactly what it’s in for culminating in one of the coolest title shots I’ve ever seen with our firs...

Everything Everywhere All at Once

Image
Everything Everywhere All at Once By Emily Hubbard A24 produce a hilarious, gut-wrenching, and absolutely bonkers trip through the multiverse  5/5 Cameras πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯ Directed by: Daniel Kwan, and Daniel Scheniert Starring: Michelle Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu, Ke Huy Quan, and Jamie Lee Curtis  No Copyright Infringement Intended  If you’re a movie fan, you’ll know that Hollywood like to go through phases; The Rom-Com phase, The Western Phase, and more recently, The Superhero Phase. Now it seems, whilst Hollywood is still holding onto the latter, a new phase is emerging, The Multiverse Phase. Evidenced by movie titans Marvel Studios' recent flurry of universe-hopping releases, such as Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, there seems to be a thirst for this type of genre. However, Marvel’s releases may have somewhat lacked in showing a wide range of universes (despite certain films’ titles), whereas Everything Everywhere All At Once grasp...

Top Gun: Maverick (2022)

Top Gun: Maverick By Emily Hubbard Tom Cruise stars in a sequel that soars higher than its predecessor  5/5 CamerasπŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯ Starring: Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Val Kilmer, et al.  Directed by: Joseph Kosinski Where to find it: In cinemas now  No Copyright Infringement Intended  Top Gun. A film widely considered a classic by many, and the film that made Tom Cruise a household name. With ground-breaking stunts and camerawork, Top Gun changed the way blockbusters were seen and made directors up their game with their future work. To this end, you would be forgiven for being anxious at the idea of a sequel, given the relatively poor quality of many Hollywood sequels. However, in an almost unbelievable turn of events, Top Gun: Maverick may have managed to outshine its’ predecessor. Picking up 36 years after the original film ended, Top Gun: Maverick sees Captain Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell (Tom Cruise) return to the infamous United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instr...
